Reverse-Cycle Heating Installation in Melbourne

Reverse-cycle air conditioners are heat pumps: one system that heats in winter and cools in summer. We help you choose split or ducted heating and install it.

Overview

Reverse-cycle heating installation for your home

Airmax installs reverse-cycle heating in Melbourne homes. Reverse-cycle systems are electric heat pumps that move heat from the outdoor air into the house, and the same system cools in summer. We install split and ducted reverse-cycle systems sized for the rooms you want to heat. We don't install gas heating.

We work across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Every job starts with a written quote.

How reverse-cycle heating works in Melbourne homes

A reverse-cycle system pumps heat rather than making it. In heating mode the outdoor unit draws heat from the outside air, even on cold days, and the indoor unit releases it into the room. Because it moves heat instead of burning fuel or running an element, it uses less electricity than a plain electric heater for the same warmth.

The same system runs in reverse in summer to cool the house, so one installation covers both seasons.

Split versus ducted heating

A split system heats the room it's in and suits living areas or a main bedroom. Several split systems, or a multi-split, can heat more rooms. A ducted reverse-cycle system heats the whole house through outlets in each room and suits homes where you want even warmth throughout.

We'll ask which rooms you use in winter and when, then recommend the set-up that heats them without paying to heat empty rooms.

Home assessment, sizing and air distribution

Heating capacity is sized for the coldest conditions you can expect, not just the room's floor area. We look at insulation, ceiling height, windows and draughts. Where the indoor unit goes also matters: warm air rises, so placement and airflow direction affect how comfortable the room feels at floor level.

Installation stages and running-cost factors

Installation follows the same steps as any reverse-cycle system: units mounted, pipework and drainage run, electrical connection made, then the system is tested in heating and cooling.

Running costs depend on the system's efficiency rating, how well the house holds heat, the temperature you set and how many hours it runs. We can explain the efficiency labels on the systems we quote so you can compare them.

Replacing an existing heater

Many homes switch to reverse-cycle from older electric panel heaters, an old split system that no longer heats well, or an ageing ducted system. We assess what you have, explain whether reverse-cycle suits the house and quote the replacement. Our split system installation and ducted air conditioning installation pages cover each option in detail.

For removal of old air conditioning equipment, we recover the refrigerant before the unit comes out.

FAQ

Common questions

More answers on our FAQ page.

Can one system provide both heating and cooling?

Yes. A reverse-cycle system heats in winter and cools in summer from the same indoor and outdoor units. You switch modes on the remote or controller.

Which heating option suits several rooms?

For a few rooms, separate split systems or a multi-split can work well. For most of the house, a ducted reverse-cycle system usually gives the most even warmth. We'll compare them for your layout.

Do you install gas heating?

No. Our heating work covers electric reverse-cycle systems. If you're thinking of replacing gas heating with reverse-cycle, we can assess the home and quote it.
