Residential Air Conditioning Repairs in Melbourne

If your air conditioner isn't cooling, is leaking or making a noise, we find the cause first, then explain the repair and what it will cost before we do it.

Overview

Air conditioning repairs for your home

Airmax repairs split and ducted air conditioning in Melbourne homes. We diagnose the fault by checking the controls, airflow, electrical parts and refrigerant system, then explain what's wrong and quote the repair before any work goes ahead.

We work across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Every job starts with a written quote.

What's included

This service covers

  • Diagnosis of cooling, airflow, noise, leak and error-code faults
  • Electrical and control checks
  • Refrigerant pressure checks and leak investigation
  • Repair or replacement of fans, motors, sensors, boards and compressors
  • A test run after the repair

Systems we work on

  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ducted reverse-cycle systems

Common symptoms

Most repair calls start with one of a few symptoms. The system runs but doesn't cool. Airflow is weak. Water drips from the indoor unit. There's a rattle, buzz or squeal. Or the unit shows an error code or won't turn on at all.

  • Running but not cooling, or cooling poorly
  • Weak airflow from the indoor unit or vents
  • Water leaking from the indoor unit
  • New noises: rattling, buzzing, grinding or squealing
  • Flashing lights or error codes
  • Tripping the circuit breaker

Diagnosis before quoting

We don't guess at repairs. We check the controller and settings first, then filters and airflow, then the electrical supply, capacitors, fan motors and sensors. If the fault points to the refrigerant system, we measure pressures and look for leaks.

Once we know the cause, we explain it in plain terms and quote the repair. Nothing is replaced until you agree.

Repair options for compressors, fans and electrical parts

Many faults come down to a single worn part, such as a fan motor, capacitor, sensor or control board. These can usually be replaced once the right part is sourced. Larger repairs include refrigerant leaks and compressor failures, which take more time and cost more.

Our specialist pages cover fault finding, refrigerant leaks, compressor replacement and parts replacement in more detail.

Repair or replace

Repair usually makes sense when the system is in reasonable condition and the part is available. Replacement may be the better choice when the system is old, the repair is expensive, parts are no longer made, or it uses an older refrigerant that is hard to service.

We'll give you both options when it's close, so you can decide.

What to tell us before a visit

A few details help us bring the right parts and diagnose the fault faster. Photos of the indoor and outdoor units, the model label and any error code on the display are the most useful.

FAQ

Common questions

More answers on our FAQ page.

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling?

Common causes are a blocked filter or coil, a fan that isn't running properly, a faulty sensor or board, or low refrigerant from a leak. Check the filters and the mode setting first. If it still won't cool, we'll diagnose the cause.

Is repair or replacement more suitable?

It depends on the system's age and condition, the cost of the repair, and whether parts are available. We explain both options when the decision isn't clear-cut.

Why is water leaking from my indoor unit?

Usually a blocked drain line or tray, or a dirty coil causing ice to form and then melt. Turn the unit off to avoid damage and book a check.
